MEET THERAPIST
Vicki Farnell
—
Vicki Farnell is a dedicated therapist and part-owner at Lighthouse Therapy. She is passionate about supporting birthing people, parents, and adults on their journeys toward understanding, healing, and growth. Drawing from a variety of theoretical frameworks, Vicki tailors her approach to meet the unique needs of each client and family. Her practice is holistic, integrating both left- and right-brain processes and somatic experiences to foster deeper healing. At the core of her work are the principles of attachment and authentic connection.
Vicki completed her Master’s of Arts in Counselling Psychology in 2012 and holds a post-graduate certificate in Complex Trauma from the Justice Institute of BC, where she discovered her deep commitment to helping survivors of childhood trauma find validation, clarity, and healing. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and uses this powerful modality to support individuals living with PTSD and C-PTSD. Her work is client-centered, offering both steady support and gentle guidance along the healing path.
A significant part of Vicki’s work centers on perinatal mental health. She is especially passionate about supporting birthing individuals and their families as they navigate pregnancy, postpartum mood disorders, and birth trauma. Vicki has received specialized training from Postpartum Support International, Pacific Postpartum Support Society, and Canadian Perinatal Mental Health. As a mother of two, she understands firsthand the intensity of early parenting and the emotional challenges it can bring. She works one-on-one with clients and also serves as a faculty member with Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Trainings, educating practitioners across Canada. Additionally, she facilitates an ongoing postpartum support group within the community.
Vicki brings extensive experience working with parent-child dyads to help strengthen and rebuild connections. She helps parents understand their children through the lens of attachment, guiding them to recognize personal triggers and develop new, empowered ways of relating. Vicki is trained in Modified Interaction Guidance, Connect Parenting, and Circle of Security. She has woven these approaches into a dynamic parenting program that delivers practical tools and deep insights, helping families grow closer and communicate more effectively. Vicki believes that with vulnerability, self-awareness, and education, healing and reconnection are always possible.
Her clinical work also includes supporting individuals facing a wide range of mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss, substance use, trauma, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and family conflict. Vicki meets clients with warmth, compassion, and respect, always honouring their lived experiences. She sees clients as the authors of their own stories and helps them reconnect with their inner wisdom to take steps toward their goals. With a focus on mindfulness, emotional intelligence, and self-reflection, Vicki fosters meaningful and lasting change.
Vicki also has a special interest and experience working with members of the LGBTQ2S+ community, and she remains committed to ongoing education and professional growth to better serve diverse populations.
Outside of the therapy room, Vicki finds peace in the outdoors. She’s an avid gardener and hiker who loves spending time with her family, especially when it involves forests, campfires, or community events. Friendly, calm, and thoughtful, Vicki is known for creating a safe and welcoming space for those she works with.
